I have read a variety of business writers and there is a common theme that seems to appear, that small business kind of works, and the big business kind of works, and then in between is a bit ordinary.
Let me explain. When you’re small, there’s only a few of you, overheads are very low, you probably work from home, you can all talk to each other all the time, systems aren’t as necessary because you’re all there, helping each other out. It’s all in your head, ‘there’s enough’. You can cope, you can manage the workload and the stress load, and the number of things you need to think about.
There’s a lot of difference between a small and informal trade business, and a structured and systematised one.
